Job Description

About the Team

Our team brings OpenAI’s most capable technology to the world through our products. Most recently, we released ChatGPT, GPT-4, the Whisper API, and DALL-E. We empower consumers and developers alike to use and access our start-of-the-art AI models, allowing them to do things that they’ve never been able to before.

Across all product lines, we ensure that these powerful tools are used responsibly. This is a key part of OpenAI’s path towards safely deploying broadly beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Safety is more important to us than unfettered growth.

About the Role

The most magical experiences are personalized. As an extension of you, the model should get more useful every time you interact with it. It should learn your unique way of doing things, taking routine tasks off your plate after observing you a few times. It should surprise you with the perfect image to fill the white space in your presentation slide, and give you date night ideas that actually sound interesting.

You’ll work closely with researchers, model designers, and privacy teams to reclaim the p-word (personalization) from advertising to something that users trust and want more of. This role is great for highly technical PMs who have superb consumer product intuition.

This position is based in San Francisco, CA. We utilize a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of cutting-edge research by crafting the vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution to advance AI

  • Convert user feedback into detailed product requirements, narratives, and technical specifications.

  • Use data to better understand user needs and guide future product development.

  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including teams in research, product design, and engineering.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 6+ years of product management or related industry experience.

  • Obtained a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Sciences, or a related field.

  • Have proven experience working in a technical environment with cross-functional teams to drive product vision, define requirements, and guide the team through key milestones.

  • Enjoy building 0-1 products from the ground up.

  • Showcase strong leadership, organizational, and execution skills, along with proven communication abilities.
